Looking For Love Is Not A Tragedy

May 17, 2010

It is funny to me how many women are so smug about being married.  How they talk about their lives as if the single woman of the world have “No Idea” what it is like to be successfully married. In life one learns, no matter how much one talk about their perfect husband and marriage being great….things happen.  Take my friend Cindy, who after 911 found herself a widow.  My other friend Elizabeth, came home one day to find her drop dead handsome husband of twenty years had left her for a much younger man, yes I said man.  My closest friend lost her husband when she was just 42, he died of acute leukemia and she was left with children …suddenly single a widow at 42.  Then there was Wendy whose husband went on a business trip, while he was away she received an anonymous call that …well let’s just say…an iphone caught a very good picture of him in town with a women he ran with.  Beautiful, a model, a television personality and the other women 15 years older.

Looking for love can be a situation.  And it is the women around us that can turn it from a tragedy into a supportive sisterhood. Like a Sex and The City kind of sisterhood.  Women who are single tend to go to the gym,  shop for pretty lingerie at Soma more often than married women for when she meets Mr. Right, and she is on dating sites like, e-harmony, or J-Date.  She wants to share her experiences with other female friends so she lunches more.  She also gets her hair done regularly, spends more time at the make-up counter, attends Charity fund-raisers, fashion shows, travels often, and generally craves Golf or Tennis.  When Chico Stylist works with single women she always has a little bounce in her step  because she is in a situation and is looking for love.  A client lost her husband of 70 years, she is a young 88.  One year later she has a new boyfriend who is 98-years-old and an active California Realtor.  She is traveling and having the time of her life, she said.  “Love looks for us”  regardless of how old we are.   So, Ladies come on be supportive of one another.  Get out there and help your single friends find a Man.
