Why Not Throw A ManMen Cocktail Party

July 22, 2010

Mad Men, returns in classic 60’s style on July 25.  Chico Stylist is so excited for season Four of the Emmy award-winning show. This season promises lots of drama, along with cocktail swirling, cigarette smoking, and inter-office ( adulterous) romance.  So why not throw a MadMen themed Cocktail party?

The Dress:  The fun part: costumes.  Ladies should wear their best vintage 60’s style dresses, hats, gloves and of course matching purse and shoes.  Book a day at the salon, as red lipstick  and “done” hair is a requirement to the MadMen fashion look.  Men can show off classic suits worn with white shirts and ties.  Adding a fedora may turn heads and help with some flirtation.

The Drinks: Think classic cocktails and on a bar cart  you have roll  out. Serve Scotch, Vodka Gimlets in martini glasses,  Pink Squirrel Martini, and Bloody Mary’s.  Here is a list of 1960 Cocktails ideas for your MadMen party.  Some of the signature cocktails are a Brandy Alexander for Peggy Olson, a Tom Collins for Betty Draper, and a Scott for Dan Draper.

Cocktail hors d’oeuvre:  Grace Kelly look-alike Betty Draper would serve  hors d’oeuvre on her best china to impress Don’s guests. So Chico Stylist suggest you use your best china too. Finger sandwiches, cheese balls, chips with onion dip (in honor of Pete’s chip and dip obsession) to keep the focus where it belongs: on the cocktails.  Keeping a supply of candy cigarettes out, will help guests get into character.

Music: Since it is a cocktail party hopefully your guest will have had enough to drink that they will want to do the Twist. Chubby Checker,  Sam Cooke,  and Ella Fitzgerald and a 60’s soundtrack sets the MadMen mood.

So if you’ve been dreaming about sheath dresses and kitten heels.   And your a Man that like’s to wear a suit.  Call me old fashioned but isn’t it nice to dress up for a MadMen cocktail party.
